A fun, dark, night on a brisk dirt rally...
The next rally will be the Pine Barrens Express (PBX). A night time rally in the NJ Pinelands. Mostly sand and dirt roads (watch out for the deep stuff). November 18, 2006.
After Rally Report
The rally is over. There was a good bit of water on the roads and some of the waterholes were deep and wide. However there wasn't too much that would keep you from being able to complete the rally. My driver Jeff and his Eagle Talon were able to complete the rally with no issues, even though the Talon sits on slightly shorter and stiffer springs. There seemed to be less washboard roads this year. The large amounts of rain we had earlier in the week may have had soemthing to do with it. Supposedly the forrest service had to repair some of the roads just days before the rally because of the storms. Also the roads seemed to be a little extra slippery as well. It was just not us who had noticed the extra slip, but several of the other teams had mentioned it as well. The speeds seemed a little higher than in previous years, so it was harder to stay on time. It was possible, just not easy. There were a couple of times where the turns were just beyond a turn in the same direction. These were close enough to cause confusion, and we got lost a couple of times and ended up taking a couple of large TA's (Time Allowances). Other than that we did well. We managed to finish 3rd in class and 5th overall. For the first time ever we beat our dad, so it was a good night.
